The Free State of Bavaria is the largest Land or state in the Federal Republic of Germany. It is the successor to the Kingdom of Bavaria from whence came half of Martin’s maternal ancestors. Bavaria is divided into seven administrative districts. Two of these Bezirke contained the towns and villages of origin of all the Bavaria immigrants. They are the Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz) and Upper Franconia (Oberfranken)
